Homestay

In Shizuoka, we provide homestay programs in 5 regions.  Each region has a unique feature, for example, in the tea region, you will have some tea experience with your host family, in the farm region, you will help vegetable harvesting, and in the fish port region, you will experience fish cooking or sushi making.  Depending on the region and families, the number of students per house differs but mostly, 4-5 per family, or 7-8 per family.

This program is to experience authentic Japanese local life.  Please DO NOT expect large rooms and  gorgeous rooms as hotels provide.  You will sleep on the tatami mat, you will have to do what you can do by yourself, and also you will have to help the family.  Please keep in mind you are not “a guest”, but a member of the family.

Fuji, agriculture such as rice and vegetables are said very good and you will stay at one of the farmer’s houses for the homestay program. Enjoy harvesting and local cooking with them !

Omaezaki HomestayOmaezaki is located in the southernmost region of Shizuoka Prefecture, known as a city of fishery and green tea. Because of its location, it has an atmosphere of southern resorts and so is also known as a mecca of surfing and marine sports. For those who love to study marine activities, we recommend Omaezaki. Japanese style family minshuku, 5-8 guests per family.

Kawane HomestayKawane village is known as a hidden paradise of green tea. The population is only less than 6,000 and animals live more than humans. Still, they have great nature and good old people who always welcome visitors from abroad. You will stay in families with farms. Experiences there come with harvesting, cooking, and hiking if time allows. Please also enjoy nature exploration after/before homestay.
