Farm Stay Experience at the foot of Mt. Fuji

It was a beautiful day with Mt. Fuji ahead. Picked up by the host family at the station, we became a member of the family. In the Farm Stay experience, you are not a guest any more, you have to become a member of the family, that is, you do what you can do by yourself, and also help them by farming, cooking, and even washing dishes sometimes.

Their house was a really traditional Japanese one.

We had some chat at the table over a cup of tea, and left for their farm before it got dark. Again, Mt. Fuji with refreshing air, I took a deep breath. Vast farm, they said visitors could harvest something throughout the year. This season, winter, laddish, sticky potato, and yam. Good for dinner. I just loved to work with farmers as a family though.

Now, time to cook. Yam grinding, frying vegetables, and even rice cooking. Also fun with the mother and the father. In 30 min or so, dinner got ready. We made a big Kampai and enjoyed local dishes. As it was too much for us, we couldn’t finish it, sorry to say, but every food was so special to me.

For your information, there are several farm stay accommodations in this region. Basically, each can have up to 5 guests but even one or two, you can stay in private. Also each house has 2 rooms for the guests. So you can share them in your group.

In Japan, you will be able to find anything such as nice hotels, nice restaurants, and nice services but if you are interested in real old Japan life, this is your option. Telling you the truth, it may not be very convenient to stay over in a sense, no convenience store nearby, no bar and restaurant, no karaoke, just farms around. At night, very dark and quiet. But this is the very local Japan and they enjoy chatting in the house drinking. Why don’t you be a part of it 👍
